The quote document is written in a rich text editor. It holds everything the customer will read: the proposal text, the terms, and the pricing. The pricing is not pasted in as text. It is inserted as billing blocks that Lago executes when the order runs.

Rich text and capabilities

The editor works like a modern document editor. An empty line shows the hint “Type / for commands…”. The toolbar covers standard formatting: headings, bold and italic, colors, lists, alignment, links, tables, code blocks, and images (PNG, JPG, WEBP, GIF under 5MB). Markdown syntax is also accepted and converts as you type. Hover a block to move or delete it. Cmd+Z restores deleted blocks. The document saves automatically: a chip in the header shows “Saving…”, then “Saved”, or “Save failed” with a retry button. “Preview” renders the document as the customer will see it, in the customer’s document language. “Download PDF” uses that same rendering: the preview is exactly what the customer receives.

Variables

Type @ to insert a variable: a dynamic value that fills in automatically, so one quote structure personalizes itself per customer. In the editor, a variable appears as a pill, for example @Customer name. In the preview and PDF, it is replaced by the actual value. A variable with no value renders as nothing. Variable values are frozen at approval. If the customer’s name changes afterwards, the order form keeps the value it was approved with.

Type / to insert document elements: Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, Bullet List, Table, Code Block. Ordered lists, links, and images are inserted from the toolbar.

Commands for billing blocks

Three more commands insert live billing blocks. Each opens a drawer where you configure the block, and that configuration is what Lago provisions at execution: the document and the billing configuration are the same thing. In the document, a billing block appears as a card. In the preview and PDF, it renders as a pricing table with the note “All prices exclude any applicable taxes”. All blocks use the quote’s currency. A partially configured block cannot be saved.

The Pricing command

The pricing block. Type / and select Pricing to insert it. On subscription quotes (“Pricing for a subscription”):
  1. Select a “Plan” from your catalog. On an amendment, the subscription context is already set;
  2. Adjust the settings cards: “Subscription settings” (external ID, name, anniversary or calendar billing, start and end dates), “Invoicing & payments settings”, “Plan settings”, and the “Subscription fee”;
  3. Override prices where needed: subscription fee, fixed charges, usage charges, minimum commitment, progressive billing; and
  4. Click “Save edits”.
Only changed fields are saved as overrides; everything else follows the catalog plan. Overrides follow the same rules as subscription overrides: you can only override what is already overridable. On one-off quotes (“Pricing for one-off invoice”):
  1. Click “Add an add-on” and select an add-on from your catalog;
  2. Set the “Units” and “Unit price” for each line;
  3. Optionally click “Edit” on a line to set billing period dates, invoice display name, and description, shown on the invoice PDF; and
  4. Click “Save edits”.

The Discount command

Applies a coupon. Type / and select Discount to insert it. Subscription quotes only. Several discount blocks allowed.
  1. Select a “Coupon” (only active coupons are listed);
  2. Adjust the prefilled “Amount” or “Percentage rate”, and the “Frequency” (once, recurring, or forever); and
  3. Click “Save edits”.

The Credits command

Adds prepaid credits. Type / and select Credits to insert it. Subscription quotes only. Each block configures one wallet, up to 5 per quote.
  1. Configure the wallet through its four cards: “Credits and wallet settings” (name, credit rate, priority, expiration, top-up limits, PO number), “Wallet scope limitation”, “Free and paid credits”, and “Wallet recurring top-up rule”; and
  2. Click “Save edits”.
The settings are the same as when creating a wallet directly on a customer. The difference is timing: the wallet is only created when the order is executed.
